Materi Diskusi dan Debat dalam bahasa inggris "Home Schooling"

Home Schooling

Home schooling is legal in most countries, but extent to which it, is practiced and varies. In the Netherlands for example, parents have a duty to send their children to a school, and Germany also forbade home schooling.
The most important thing is ensuring children receive the decent education which they have a right to – something that, with its resources, experience and expertise, and some people think that the state is the best placed to do. Interaction with other pupils is a crucial element of a child’s development. Being atble to integrate depends on exposure to other people- obviously there’s more diversity in a class than in the home. Indeed, parents and children spending day after at home are sometimes subject to a phenomenon sociologists call the ‘hothouse’ relationship – the closeness between them becomes exclusive, with relation to outsiders almost aggressive by instinct. Such a relationship makes it more difficult for the child to adapt to life in the wider community.
In other case, parents are responsible for ensuring that their children’s education is carried out well. If they feel their children would be best educated at home, by them or by another that is their right. Parents know what is the best for their children – parents care more, because it’ their children. Home schooling doesn’t just offer a better education. Family bonding is a massively important element of a child’s development, one that’s constantly undermined in modern society. Positive parental role models are found less and less frequently. Home schooling is not a removal of a child from society- just from the state’s schools.

To discuss:
1.      Do you support home schooling?
2.      Do you believe that the state does not know best for the children’s education?
Do you agree if the house would allow parents to educate their children at home?

Materi diskusi dan debat dalam bahasa inggris "Tradition"

Tradition

In a world of technological change, we struggle to keep up with the new developments, yet at the same time, many of us welcome the continuity and repetition provided by traditions. Some of our traditions are connected with places, others relate to calendar and religious or pagan ceremonies.
Annual calendar tradition in our society like wearing a new clothes to celebrate Idul Fitri day (a victory day after Holy Ramadan fasting). The other when we want to start or begin our first day at school. We are wearing a new clothes and new bag etc. in that two events we feel ashamed if we don’t follow the tradition.
Traditions are also observed during important moments of our lives such as weding and funerals. In traditional Macassarnese and Buginese weeding, people wear baju bodo. And some families make ceremony before the wedding like Mapparola and Mappatuada, but now many people left the ceremony to shorten the time. In Torajanese funerals, we can see a big party which called Rambu Solo Ceremony. This ceremony runs for several days and sacrifice many buffaloes and pigs with many unique and interesting ceremonies.
But now, our traditions are attacked by Western custom. Our young generation likes fast food most than our traditional food, they like listening to western music rather than the traditional one. Traditional songs, music and dance only mastered by old people, but the youth don’t care anymore.

Problems :
·         Do you think we should maintain our traditions or make a way for change?
·         Who must be responsible to maintain our tradition?

·         How to counter attack our tradition from the influence of western culture?

materi diskusi dan debat dalam bahasa inggris "What friends are for"

What friends are for

It is often said that lots of people will walk in and out of our lives, but only some of friends leave footprints in our hearts. We do agree with this saying since besides our families, those are our friends who affect our life in some profound ways, for us, these friends are very precious because of some reasons.
There are plenty of things we can learn from our friends. They teach us not only the academic subjects, but also the meaning of life, friendship and love, all of which are worth lesson for us. We really love the way they teach to share our stories and experiences together. This sharing enables us to learn a lot of new experience from their stories as well as to get some alternative solutions to our problems and vice versa.
Friends are good motivators; we get lots of encouragement and support in either good or bad times. When we are feeling sad, they always try to cheer up make us laugh. When failure makes us disappointed, they

listen to us with their open hearts, offer a word of comfort and encourage us a lot.
It cannot be denied that our friends help us a lot to figure out who we are and who we want to become. With their different and unique personalities, each of them is like a color. Together with our families, they form a beautiful rainbow that always colors our life with friendship and love that is what friends are for.
Problems:
·
        What friend means to you?
·         Friend and close friend are very different. What do you think of them?
·         What do you get from your friends?
·         If your friends betrayed you, what would you do?

·         Do you have an unforgettable experience with your friend(s)?

Materi diskusi dan debat daliam bahasa inggris WHEN HEALTH MEETS MONEY

                 WHEN HEALTH MEETS MONEY
Now it is very popular with the government's efforts in dealing with public health which is known by the name BPJS (Healthcare and Social Security Agency) to organize the National Health Insurance (JKN). Indonesia’s BPJS participants not only became mandatory (wajib) for workers in the formal sector, but also for informal workers. Informal workers are also required to be a member BPJS. They must register and pay monthly fee in accordance with the levels of services. This program has been commenced (dimulai) gradually in 2014, and in 2019 it is expected all Indonesian citizens will already have health insurance.
The Minister of Health, Nila Moeloek, stated that BPJS is a social
insurance where the sick is helped by the healthy. She persuaded (mengajak) all people of Indonesia to sign up in BPJS, especially for the healthy ones because by signing this, people then provide themselves an ‘umbrella’ for healthcare they pay routinely.
Unfortunately this program also brings health service and trust problems. One of them is a case of a mother fighting for her baby, M. Rizki Akbar (2 y.o.) who died after six hospitals from Tangerang to Jakarta refused to accept him under cliché (klise) reasons. Agung Nugroho, Chairman of Relawan Kesehatan (Rekan) Indonesia said that some regulations must be intentionally reformulated since it will bring severe impact to the infant (bayi/anak) mortality (kematian) rate.
The most reason case is the indication of fraudulent (penipuan) committed by hospitals claiming larger reimbursement (pembayaran) from BPJS. A public health expert, Budi Hidayat, observed that 4.4% of inpatient (pasien rawat inap) cases were suspicious, and cost BPJS Kesehatan Rp 1.86 trillion. For outpatients (pasien rawat jalan), 43% cases, costing 6.9 trillion, needed further investigation. In 2015 there were 175,000 claims believed to be fraudulent, but now there are 1 million potential fraudulent claims detected. That is why they need to build a fraud-prevention system. Yet, where is the money from?
