NEW YEAR
CELEBRATION
New Year’s Eve is a celebration where a culture
celebrates the end of the year and marks the starting of the following year. In
Indonesia, this celebration falls on first January because they adopted the
Gregorian calendar, as was the case both in the Old Roman calendar (at least
after 713 BCE) and in the Julian calendar that succeeded (menggantikan) it.
The end of the year and the first day of the AD New Year (tahun baru masehi) is somehow a valuable moment for most people where they
expect their resolution in a year ahead will come true.
In our country, when the New Year's Eve comes, the
young usually holds various parties. Some of them will stay up late (begadang) to wait 00.00 a.m. When the
time has come, they cheerfully and simultaneously blow the trumpet and set off
(menyalakan) fireworks. The parade of
motorcycles begins to rev their deafening (patongoli) engines. They spend all night to attend an entertainment
stages or music concerts held in various places over the city.
Television, radio, and the owners of shopping
centers will not obviously miss out (melewatkan)
in participating enlivening (memeriahkan)
this party. Various promotions and massive discounts are offered in welcoming Christmas
and New Year’s holidays. People are taking a part in this hectic crowd (keramairiuhan) by singing, dancing and
performing exciting games.
However, some others disagree with its frantic
(gila-gilaan) celebration of the New
Year party on New Year's Eve because the number of irregularities (ketidakberesan) often happens among
teenagers. Money is burnt uselessly only for firecrackers, cigarettes, and even
drugs. And the worst, streets are going to be flooded by vehicles, starting from
uptown (luar kota) to the downtown
(dalam kota). Traffic accident and
free sex seem unavoidable (tak
terelakkan) due to the carelessness of irresponsible juvenile (anak muda). Plus, do not ever forget about the
garbage left after party.
Let’s
